Paving the winter roads.

On the surface, Highway 599 appears to be an isolated road in Northern Ontario. However, the 292-kilometer highway is more than that; it is vital road infrastructure with benefits for Mishkeegogamang First Nation, Pickle Lake, and the northern remote communities beyond.

The Ministry needed areas of the reconstruction to be completed by October 2018 without disturbing local traffic, causing delays or creating additional costs. The scope required culvert repairs, safer guard rail technology, and the restoration of 100 kilometers of road in environmentally sensitive areas. The highway improvements will allow safer and more reliable access to the ice roads, a network of winter roads that cross over lakes and rivers all throughout Northern Ontario. This network of ice roads is a lifeline to the remote north, providing the remote communities with the opportunity to deliver necessary supplies in a cost-effective manner.

Through the leadership of our team, Highway 599 was completed on time with no additional costs.
