Colliers Project Leaders is proud to expand its capabilities in medical equipment planning with new expertise and technology. As the Canadian market leader in medical furniture, equipment planning and move readiness, this investment will allow our team to continue to grow to support our clients’ needs.
New experts join our team and build our Operational Readiness capability
The addition of three industry veterans brings niche healthcare expertise to the Colliers Project Leaders team.
John Sorrell will lead our Furniture, Equipment Planning and Move Readiness services as Managing Director. Previously the Managing Director and Co-Owner at The Readiness Group, John has significant expertise in managing equipment services for hospital redevelopment projects.
Also joining the team are Patricia Santiago as Principal, Operational Readiness, and Deborah Hill as Director, Major Projects – Healthcare. Santiago’s previous experience in policy development, capital planning, and operations in healthcare projects, as Principal and Co-Owner at The Readiness Group, will strengthen the team’s capability in change leadership for operational readiness. Hill comes to Colliers Project Leaders from Wellington Health Care Alliance where she was Vice-President, Redevelopment & Transition, and brings expertise in the planning and implementation of major healthcare redevelopment, IO-led projects, and CCDC2 healthcare renovations.
Investments in proprietary software to maintain our leadership position as the Canadian-based service provider of choice
Colliers Project Leaders is the leading medical equipment planner in the Canadian market, having acquired well-known Canadian firm EPA in 2018. We are also the only one to maintain a proprietary software which relies on inventories of CSA-approved equipment. This advantage ensures availability of the recommended equipment for our Canadian clients and ensures efficient and cost-effective delivery of our mandates.
In 2021, Colliers Project Leaders is investing in upgrades to our equipment planning software to drive our medical equipment planning projects. The future version will see the application built using a Microsoft development language and be widely available through the Azure cloud. This will result in some immediate efficiencies in performance and in the overall quality of project deliverables. The new platform will enable more significant feature enhancements in subsequent software development phases.
In future developments, our vision is to increase the degree of automation for equipment list generation and the use of machine learning to better “train” the system to generate first iterations of equipment lists. This approach could leverage the knowledge and experience embedded in previous equipment lists successfully delivered to Canadian hospitals.
Evolving to meet our clients’ needs
Through ongoing conversation with our existing clients, the marketplace is signaling an opportunity for new service offerings to better support Canadian hospital redevelopment projects.
In several recent projects, the team provided equipment planning and coordinated procurement and installation of all equipment in four rapid pandemic response units across Ontario. Our team was uniquely positioned in the market to provide access to vendors with readily available stocks of equipment and existing contracts, in order to meet our clients’ very tight timelines. From the time our teams started, the facilities were complete in 12 weeks, demonstrating our increased capability to provide higher service levels and value to our clients. Meet the Team
John Sorrell, Managing Director – Furniture | Equipment | Move Readiness
“Tremendous opportunity exists to improve upon an already high standard of excellence for delivering F&E planning services into the Canadian Healthcare marketplace. Drawing upon new technologies, models of production and some of the smartest people in this sector, I see exciting, disruptive and high-growth times ahead”.
Patricia Santiago, Principal – Operational Readiness
“I am excited about building the Operational Readiness service for Colliers. With significant investment in new state-of-the-art facilities come the responsibility to work through challenges that impede staff and achieve optimal performance in their new space. I enjoy working with our clients to identify the biggest pressure points, then creating a strong operational readiness strategy. Intensive readiness planning upfront proves its value on Day 1 of occupancy with safe operations, content staff, and enhanced performance. “Operational Readiness” is a term our clients equate to their project success, and I am proud to be part of that.”
Deborah Hill, Director, Major Projects – Healthcare
“I am most excited about bringing both a unique clinical expertise as well as extensive hospital redevelopment experience to our clients. Having been on the client side for most of my career, I will bring a knowledgeable perspective to their projects. I have experienced the challenges they are living and have pockets full of lessons learned!”
